We are in search of a weekend car. Something fun, a drivers car. We have VW’s for getting groceries, getting the littlest Road and Snacker to day care, vacations and daily driving. But daddy wants a weekend vehicle.
I want a car that is loud, bumpy, flat in a corner, and goes… just goes. New England is full of back roads, roads that you use to make a 4 minute coffee run turn into an hour long “ride.” And those roads call or something like…. a BMW M3.
The search for a 2001 – 2003 M3 has been going on for about 4 days now. I know I am getting myself into a bit of a pickle… these cars are historically driven “hard” and really how reliable is a M3 w/ 146k+ miles? Probably a shitty investment, if you can even call it that. I will say, I pride myself on sourcing gently used parts from across the country, the forums etc… I kept my 2002 Saab 95 Aero running and running well via this technique.
So, mileage, meeeh… whatever, I am encouraged w/ the cars that have had recent water pump and timing replacements, and that are not salvage titles. eBay has been a resource to see what is out there in the market. For example, the above Black, 2002 has low miles, looks dope, is close to us (its in NH!), clean title etc…
Then there is this one. Not sure I am a fan of the Red on Red…. but anything can be changed!
Tons of miles on this, less $$ than the black one above.
So we have our work cut out for us, need to get to a point where we are OK w/ the $$ and the high mileage. Also, doing this solely on line via eBay limits any and all test driving, face time w/ the car and owner etc…
If you have a M3 locally (Boston/New England area) let us know! We would love to see it, drive it, see if it might be the right fit for our garage!
